Achilles Tendonitis

What it is
the Achilles tendon inserts to the heel in the back of your leg. Achilles tendonitis can happen gradually and be degenerative of the tendon with no history of trauma. Usual symptoms are shooting, burning and/or extreme piercing pain. Left untreated Achilles tendonitis can weaken or even rupture the tendon.

repetitive activities that stress the tendon or even standing for long periods of time can aggravate this condition.

Most often people that suffer from this condition have very painful first steps when getting out of bed or after sitting for long periods of time.

How it happens
Often the cause of Achilles tendonitis is flat feet or over-pronation (arch collapsing in the walking process) which adds stress to the Achilles tendon. Lack of adequate stretching prior to exercise or improper shoe fit can also have a direct impact on the tendon.
